Medical Care

What is Medicaid?

Medicaid is free health insurance. Medicaid can help you with all of your medical and mental health needs, even if you choose to not be enrolled in EFC, Aftercare, or PESS. If you are no longer in Florida, you will need to reapply for Medicaid in the state you live in.  To be able to get Medicaid you must be:

• Under the age of 26;

• Aged out of foster care at 18;

• Were on Medicaid while in foster care; and

• Are not eligible for other Medicaid coverage (example: pregnant, parent, disabled).

How do I know if I qualify?

If you age out of foster care, you can receive Medicaid until you are 26 years old. If you turned 18 after January 1, 2023, you will get Medicaid until the age of 26 in any state if you were in foster care on your 18th birthday.
